Berwick RFC was formed in the Scottish Rugby Union in 1926 and played in the South District Union.

The Club faced annual difficulties such as finding players and pitches but it could not survive the outbreak of Second World War. The Club was reformed in 1968 with the aim of ‘creating a good physical environment for rugby and to be part of the sporting and social fabric of Berwick.’

In 2001, Berwick RFC was invited to join the Border League. The Club become only the second English club in the rugby union’s oldest league.

Key Facts

  1. In 2004, the Club won the National Shield and in 2006 reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.
  2. Individual honours include, Craig Smith who won 25 full Scottish caps, Gavin Kerr, who won 50 caps and is now Scotland’s third most capped prop. Mark Lee has captained both Scotland and British Army VIIs and Andrew Skeen has played in Scotland’s VII and its “Club International XV”
