Yesterday we announced our partnership with Helicentre Aviation, a helicopter pilot training academy, which will see us create content during the 6 Nations, now only two days away. Helicentre Aviation is a leading provider of professional pilots to industry, located in the Leicestershire countryside in the East Midlands. The business was set up by Helicentre Aviation Chairman Chris Line and Financial Director Katie Line. Both being huge rugby fans with Chris playing the sport around the Midlands area for clubs such as Southam RFC.
Helicentre Aviation’s main focus is on the Academy. They run courses for those looking to forge a pathway to becoming a professional pilot in which they are partnered with Middlesex University. They also provide airborne and ground - based training at the airfield. It’s a unique place to visit and amazing to hear how the business has grown and become the heavyweight in the sector. Alongside the training, they have contracts which see them operating amongst other things, the largest onshore gas pipeline in the UK.
Having spoken to Sarah Bowen the Managing Director, it was pleasing to hear that there were several members of the Helicentre Aviation team, not only in the management, but also among the flight instructors and students, who have a love of rugby. During the 6 Nations we hope to find out more about them, their love of the sport and their grassroots rugby experiences. We might even put their skills to the test, who knows?
It’s well known that rugby clubs have, within their membership, someone who can always help you out. Need a plumber? No doubt there is one within the membership. Need a solicitor, accountant, PT, lawyer, builder, doctor or estate agent? They’ll all be in there. Not many will be helping teach students the skills required to become a helicopter pilot! We’ll find out which lucky clubs have this to call upon we hope.
Aside from the contracts and training academy, Helicentre Aviation also have the ability to offer a bespoke charter aircraft flights should there be the requirement. They have obtained more than twenty year’s experience in this space and often fly clients to some major sporting events. Helicentre can also offer you helicopter flying experiences such as a Leicester City skyline tours or even a trial flying lesson. You can find out more information by visiting their website: https://www.flyheli.co.uk/shop/
Interestingly, one of the biggest names from rugby, former All Black Richie McCaw is a helicopter pilot and began flying as a commercial pilot back in 2003. Once he finished his career in professional rugby he went on to gain his fixed wing and helicopter commercial license and now owns Christchurch Helicopters.
We’re really excited to be working with Helicentre Aviation and Nick and Tom have some interesting ideas up their sleeves for content during the 6 Nations. Make sure you have a look at the website for all the information you need and give Helicentre a shout if becoming a pilot is something that you might fancy giving a go.
