Tom May Returns to the Field for one Weekend Only!

September 15, 2017

A lot has changed since E4R Director Tom May played his last game as captain for London Welsh. Unfortunately for the team, it's not been all good, with them dropping out of the Championship and having to re-group in a league that's rather far away from the Aviva Premiership - however, sometimes in life, you just have to adapt. As Tom has previously stated, rugby is a brilliant and fun game regardless the level you play at, so he’s excited for his cameo appearance against E4R Club Partner, Staines RFC!

Although looking forward to his first competitive rugby match in quite a while, the timing of Tom’s call up isn’t ideal for him (but quite funny for the rest of us).

Not only does he have a 5k run to do in Richmond tomorrow morning prior to the fixture, and he’s also in the middle of intense training for a 24-hour challenge on a Watt Bike (yes, absolutely rather him than me), which includes daily ball-busting sessions.

And if that wasn’t enough, Tom now has to play competitive rugby against a side with a very close partnership to Everything4Rugby, so he’ll have to watch how many big hits he puts in, or how many times he crosses the white paint…that’ll be his excuse for any low Talley’s anyway.

All jokes aside, it’s great to see Tom back supporting the amateur side of the sport and willingly accepting a playing request at extremely short notice – after all, we know how some sides can struggle to field a XV within the sport’s grassroots!

Best of luck to both sides tomorrow, and especially Tom – hope you make it through the full 80!

If you're in the area and fancy heading down to watch the match, entry is free! We've also mapped the game's location below!
