Visitors Wasps FC moved to 4th in the table with a bonus point win over DMP Sharks
Wasps took maximum points from their trip to the North East with a comprehensive win over the DMP Sharks. 4 first half tries ensured the visitors returned with all 5 points on a bitterly cold evening at the Northern Echo Arena.
The visitors opened the scoring inside the first 60 seconds as prop Hannah West intercepted a loose pass in the midfield to score under the posts. Their second came 10 minutes later as Claire Molloy crossed from a driving maul. The flanker added her second and Wasps’ third soon after as she spotted a gap in the Sharks defence to race away in the left corner. Sharks almost hit back through a Beth Blacklock break, before Wasps tied up the 4 try bous point inside the half hour. Number 8 Lizzy Crake profited from a strong Wasps drive to dot down on 29 minutes. Fly half Goulden converted each of the first 4 tries making the score 0-28 at the half.
The hosts started the second half brightly but conceded the 5th try on 50 minutes as Crake crossed for her second. The conversion fell just short leaving the score 0-33. Wasps extended their lead on 60 minutes through Tova Derk, who finished well in the corner. The hosts rallied in the final quarter but were unable to narrow the deficit, leaving the final score Sharks 0-38 Wasps FC.
The Sharks will now travel to Firwood Waterloo in Round 8, while Wasps visit Harlequins.
